  • Daily horse care (deworming, teeth and feet checks, lameness checks).
  • Monitor health and wellbeing of each horse and report issues.
  • Unloads and stores feed and supplies; maintain inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.

OVERVIEW

The Equine Caretaker is the person is responsible for the daily care and wellbeing of our lesson and boarding horses under the supervision of the Equestrian Manager. Supports the Equestrian Programs team in making sure horses are sound and fit for lessons and well taken care of. This person should have experience working with and caring for horses, as they will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of care for all our horses. Ability to ride and train horses is preferred but not required.

KEY FUNCTIONS
  • Daily feeding and watering of horses
  • Pulling horses for and assisting farrier, vet, and chiropractor
  • Daily horse care (de worming, checking teeth and feet, lameness checks, icing/Epsom salts)
  • Daily monitoring of the health and well-being of each horse; reports issues or concerns to supervisor
  • Unloads and stores feed and supplies
  • Assists in maintaining inventory and proper storage of feed and supplies
  • Ensures compliance with all policies, procedures and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed essentially outdoors. While performing the duties of the job, employee is frequently exposed to loud noises and odors. Stands and walks for extended periods of time. Frequently performs moderate lifting and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 lbs. While performing the semi-manual duties of this job, the employee works in hot, and humid weather conditions. The employee is exposed to assorted soaps, sprays, horse manure, disinfectants, medicines, and odors associated with animal barns. Position may involve riding, exercising and lunging of horses.
