Job summary

Portage County is seeking a part-time Energy Sustainability Specialist to support energy efficiency and climate initiatives across the county. The role involves auditing buildings, tracking energy use, and assisting with grant applications under a grant-funded program.

The position emphasizes collaboration with residents, schools, and local governments, with travel required. Pay starts at $31.64 per hour for a 32-hour workweek, mid-September 2026 through Summer 2028.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in energy-related field.
• Minimum 2 years in sustainability, clean energy, local government, or similar.
• Grant management experience with state/federal grants.
• Must have valid driver's license and ability to travel.
• A combination of education and experience to perform essential functions.

Responsibilities

• Audit buildings for energy-saving opportunities.
• Track energy use in county and municipal buildings.
• Review capital plans to include energy-saving ideas.
• Prepare grant applications and funding reports.
• Facilitate trainings and outreach to local government staff.
• Represent the County at meetings and present project updates.
