Job summary

VEG in Virginia is seeking a part-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced team and support patients, pet parents, and teammates from day one.

You’ll assist with triage, treatments, diagnostics, anesthesia support, and rounds, learning under credentialed technicians and veterinarians. Flexibility is required, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with pathways to credentialing and career growth.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• AVMA-accredited vet tech program is a plus.
• 1+ year in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR familiarity.
• Excellent communication with pet parents and team.
• Ability to stand for long hours and lift up to 25 kg.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome, triage incoming patients, and guide them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics
• Work with technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation
• Set up IV fluids, blood products, and medication administration
• Support both outpatient and inpatient care from exam room to treatment area
• Join patient rounds to monitor the clinical picture and continuity of care
• Learn CPR and RECOVER Certified Rescuer training
• Grow into advanced responsibilities like anesthesia support and ultrasound
