Job summary

The Somerville Public Schools’ SCALE program seeks a part-time ELL Level 4 morning teacher to deliver contextualized, competency-based instruction for adult learners at low intermediate to advanced levels, emphasizing reading, writing, speaking and listening.

You will align lessons with MA DESE ACLS standards, collaborate with staff, integrate technology, assess progress, and support students toward workplace readiness and further education in a dynamic adult education setting.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with Adult Basic Education and ELL.
• Solid understanding of adult learning theory.
• Knowledge of the four language domains (reading, writing, speaking, listening).
• Proficiency with digital literacy tools and platforms.
• Knowledge of MA DESE ACLS guidelines and ELPS.
• Professionalism and collaboration with students and staff.
• Commitment to SCALE mission and diversity/inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Create learner-centered ELL lessons for Level 4 morning class.
• Align lessons with ELL Curriculum Guidelines and MA DESE standards.
• Translate objectives into engaging activities appropriate to learners’ levels.
• Update materials regularly and share resources with colleagues.
• Guide language acquisition and cultural understanding, respecting diversity.
• Set goals with students and monitor progress toward them.
• Use assessments to inform placement and track progress.
• Handle attendance and assessments, communicating with students.
• Attend meetings and participate in professional development.
• Collaborate with education and career advisors on readiness instruction.
