Job summary

Kids for the Future in Fort Wayne, IN, is seeking an Elementary School Aide/Teacher Assistant for a part-time, 10-month role. You will support the teacher with learning activities, prepare materials, supervise students, and help maintain a positive classroom environment aligned with school policies.

The role requires a high school diploma and preferred parish involvement, with duties including assisting during before/after school times and coordinating with the principal as directed.

Qualifications

• Active member of a Roman Catholic parish faith community (preferred).
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Three years of successful experience (preferred).
• Keyboarding and general business applications.
• Experience with parish/school data and word processing systems.
• Ability to set priorities and organize work effectively and efficiently including developing & maintaining effective record keeping systems.
• Ability to compose correspondence, minutes, and/or reports.
• Excellent people relations skills for representing the parish to those who call, write, or visit.
• Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality.
• Motivated, takes initiative without being asked and works to streamline and make processes more efficient.

Responsibilities

• Treating all children, parents, and staff with dignity and respect.
• Assisting in implementing the daily learning program under the direction of the teacher.
• Assisting in preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
• Assisting with set up and clean-up of classrooms at the beginning and end of the school year as requested.
• Supervising the classroom for small periods of time when the teacher is out of the room.
• Supervising the students during non-instructional times, i.e., before/after school, indoor and outdoor recess, and lunchtimes as per supervision schedule.
• Attending school and diocesan in-services as directed by the Administration.
• Assisting the class in other appropriate ways.
• The instructional assistant supervises students in the classroom, the gym/cafeteria during morning duty, the gym/cafeteria during lunch, on the playground during recess, and assures that students are safe at all times.
• Adhering to the policies and procedures of the Diocese of Fort Wayne South Bend Employee Handbook and Catholic School Educational policies and procedures.
• It is a condition of employment that all employees conduct themselves in a manner that is compatible with and supportive of the faith-based school.
• The instructional assistant participates in and helps the teacher to create a positive learning environment for all students, supports the behavioral expectations set forth by the teacher, executes any assigned duties that the teacher requests.
