Job description

The dual position seeks a candidate who will work as a preschool teacher for 3.0 hours a day and as program director for 2.0 hours a day. It is a year-round position, and the candidate must be a practicing member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Basic Duties and Responsibilities (Teacher)

• Designing and implementing conference-approved curriculum
• Knowledge and experience with working with preschool aged children
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a passion for early childhood development
• Adhering to legal, state protocols, and educational requirements to ensure student well-being

Basic Duties and Responsibilities (Director)

• Plan, organize, manage, and supervise the ELC program and the after‑school program in coordination with the Calvary Adventist School board and the State of Virginia; and facilitate positive relations among preschool staff, parents, and the center
• Requires strong supervisory, leadership, and communication skills along with a warm and nurturing disposition
• Oversee policies of admission, attendance, and educational goals in accordance with the Columbia Union Conference of Seventh-Day Adventist Office of Education and the Allegheny East Conference Office of Education
• Have knowledge of developmentally appropriate curriculum, interactions, and environments
• Train and supervise the preschool staff by holding meetings, mediating minor disagreements, and assisting in the classroom when necessary
• Manage reports and reimbursement claims for the school’s National School Lunch Program in conjunction with the School Nutrition Director

Requirements

• Practicing member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
• Fingerprint and Background Check clearance
• Sterling Volunteers clearance

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma
• Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education or a related education major OR a minimum of five years of teaching experience in a child care center
• Eligible for denominational teacher certificate
• Prior teaching experience preferred
• Prior school director experience is preferred
