Job summary

Maryland Institute College of Art seeks a Research Technician for the Digital Fabrication Department. The role supports CAD/CAM workflows, studio instruction, and safe operation of fabrication equipment across multiple campus locations.

Responsibilities include assisting with day-to-day studio operations, user support, and documentation. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience plus 1+ year with Rhino and fabrication tools are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in Fine Arts, Industrial Design, Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
• 1+ years of experience using Rhino or comparable CAD software.
• 1+ years of experience preparing files for digital fabrication workflows.
• 1+ years of experience operating laser cutters, CNC routers, and 3D printers.
• Demonstrated ability to support users with varying levels of technical experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day operation, maintenance, and organization of the Digital Fabrication Studios.
• Provide technical and instructional support to students with CAD modeling, fabrication workflows, and equipment operation.
• Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot studio equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation.
• Ensure Environmental Health & Safety compliance through training and documentation.
• Demonstrate and enforce safe use of studio equipment and processes.
• Assist with supervising student access and contributing to studio documentation and tutorials.
