Position Summary

San Diego State University Imperial Valley is seeking a part-time, service-oriented part-timeCustodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming campus environment. This role performs a variety of custodial, maintenance, and support duties to ensure campus facilities are clean, functional, and ready for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Custodial Services
  • Clean and maintain classrooms, offices, restrooms, common areas, and building entrances.
  • Perform floor care, furniture cleaning, trash and recycling removal, and replenishment of restroom supplies.
  • Support post-construction cleanup, emergency response cleaning, and special custodial projects.
  • Maintain windows, stairwells, exterior walkways, and other campus facilities to ensure a clean and professional appearance.
  • Campus Closures & Special Support
  • Perform deep cleaning projects during campus closures, including floor restoration, carpet cleaning, pressure washing, and room setup.
  • Support conferences, special events, and other campus operational needs.
  • Facility & Equipment Maintenance
  • Perform minor facility and custodial equipment repairs and adjustments.
  • Report building maintenance needs and assist with securing campus facilities.

Position Information
  • This is an intermittent hourly, temporary position with an appointment end date of June 30, 2027. Work hours are on an as-needed basis and will vary based on operational needs. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • The individual hired in this role will work on campus at our SDSU-Imperial Valley Campus.
Department Summary

SDSU Imperial Valley is an integral division of SDSU located 120 miles east of the San Diego Campus. SDSU Imperial Valley Sciences and Engineering Laboratories and are in Brawley, CA, providing access to laboratory, classrooms and research facilities and the school of nursing connects our faculty and students with more than 100 community partners throughout San Diego and Imperial Valley. The Brawley location is 24 miles north from Calexico site and also this site is falling with the scope of this position. The Calexico Physical Plant consists of approximately 8 acres, with 15 buildings.

Education and Experience

Prior experience not required.

Key Qualifications
  • Ability to lift and transport equipment, material and supplies up to 50 pounds without assistance (in excess of 50 pounds with assistance).
  • A working knowledge of the common methods, practices, equipment, and materials used in custodial work
  • General knowledge of cleaning chemicals and methods of use; ability to make repairs to equipment to ensure good operating order.
  • Prior experience in custodial services, maintenance services, or similar environment within the previous three years preferred.
  • Prior experience using custodial floor equipment (ride on Zambonis or walk – behind floor machines, carpet extractors, buffers, floor sweepers and restroom equipment) within the previous two years preferred.
Licenses/Certifications Required

Valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

Compensation

Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience, in alignment with the department’s budget and equity guidelines.

  • Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 5 ($21.62 per hour).
  • Salary step placement for internal applicants will follow the CSUEU Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: $19.97 - $27.42 per hour(Step 1 – Step 17).
  • Future increases, including step advancements, are subject to contract negotiations.
