Job summary

Ottawa County is seeking a part-time, benefited Court Security Officer based in Hudsonville, MI to enforce courtroom rules and maintain orderly proceedings. Standard hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Hudsonville Court House.

Responsibilities include opening/closing the courtroom, directing attendees, escorting jurors and witnesses, administering oaths, and coordinating with law enforcement when required. A high school diploma and related training are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with some post-secondary training in law enforcement or related field.
• Two years of progressively responsible experience in court security or related setting.
• Satisfactory work history and personal background as required.
• Ability to interact professionally with judges, attorneys, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Open the courtroom and ensure readiness for proceedings; secure the courtroom at day end.
• Direct parties to areas and provide schedule/procedural information to attorneys and litigants.
• Escort and assist visitors and litigants, explaining court procedures.
• Call cases, announce judge's entrance, and manage courtroom flow.
• Escort witnesses and jurors, administer oaths, and sequester as needed.
• Maintain courtroom order and monitor individuals during sessions.
• Coordinate with Sheriff's Department for security when needed.
• Escort defendants to the Clerk's Office for paperwork and payments.
• Assist judge and court recorders with operations in the courtroom.
• Perform related duties as assigned by Chief Clerk or judge.
