Skill is seeking a meticulous copyeditor to join our editorial team in New York. You will copyedit editorial pieces, show titles, descriptions, and social content, ensuring accuracy, style adherence, and legal soundness, while coordinating workflows among editors and fact-checkers.

You’ll format pages in WordPress and related publishing tools, manage tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and collaborate across a multi-editor desk to protect quality and trust in our content.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional copyediting in a high-volume publication.
• Strong command of AP and Chicago styles.
• Experience with WordPress and web publishing tools.
• Excellent English grammar, line editing, structure, tone, and proofreading under tight deadlines.
• Proven ability to manage high-volume turnaround times in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate across a multi-editor desk.

This role is integral to our content production, where you will be the guardian of quality, style, and accuracy for a diverse range of digital content. Your keen eye and editorial judgment will directly influence the clarity, impact, and trustworthiness of our published work, shaping the user experience for millions globally.

Role Details

• Hours: Part-Time (20-28 hours per week; shifts structured in 5- to 6-hour blocks; 4-5 shifts per week)
• Schedule: 8:00 AM EST start time; potential weekend morning availability

Primary Responsibilities

• Copyedit a variety of content, including editorial pieces, show titles, descriptions, and social media content, to ensure accuracy, adherence to proper style, clear structure, and legal soundness.
• Coordinate the continuous flow of copy among editors, fact-checkers, and a team of up to a dozen editorial staff members, ensuring efficient workflow management.
• Build, format, and maintain digital pages using Content Management Systems like WordPress and other digital publishing tools.

Must-Have Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional copyediting experience gained within a daily, weekly, or monthly publication, or a high-volume publishing/journalism environment.
• Strong command of AP and Chicago styles.
• Demonstrated experience with Content Management Systems (e.g., WordPress) and web-based production tools.
• Exceptional command of English grammar, line editing, structure, tone, punctuation, and proofreading, with a proven ability to perform under tight deadlines.
• Proven ability to manage high-volume turnaround times in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills to partner effectively across a multi-editor copy desk.
• Ability to apply critical editorial judgment, moving beyond surface-level proofreading to evaluate stories for taste, potential legal issues, sentence flow, and journalistic integrity.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Background in sports editing or a high comfort level with reading sports copy, coupled with familiarity with pop-culture content.
• Experience in digital publishing, web media production, and deep feature editing.

Other Requirements

The target hiring compensation range for this role is $25/hr to $28/hr. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
