About PrimECS

PrimECS is a fast-growing engineering and construction firm delivering civil construction, project management, design, and consulting services on major infrastructure projects across the Mid-Atlantic region. Our clients include major public agencies and global AEC firms. We\'re building for the long term, with bold growth plans and a people-first culture rooted in execution, quality, and innovation.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Part-Time Controller / Senior Finance Manager to bring structure, clarity, and discipline to our financial operations. This is a hands-on, high-impact role suited for a seasoned finance leader who thrives in a growing, entrepreneurial environment and can help transition our financial systems to \"scalable excellence.\"

You\u2019ll work closely with our leadership, our administrative team, operations leadership, and project controls staff to ensure the accuracy of financial reporting, job costing, forecasting, and internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Oversight & Controls

  • Own the monthly close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting (P&L, Balance Sheet, AR/AP aging, job-level cost performance).

  • Review and refactor Chart of Accounts, ensuring clarity across divisions (Construction, Engineering, CM, Surveying).

  • Monitor labor coding, project-level spend, and vendor costs to ensure alignment with budgeted margins.

  • Forecasting & Budgeting

  • Develop and maintain a rolling 12-month cash flow forecast in coordination with the leadership and operations leads.

  • Assist in creating project-specific cost forecasts and revenue projections using historical data, bid assumptions, and pipeline analysis.

  • Support internal cost containment efforts through variance analysis and actionable recommendations.

  • Compliance & Audit

  • Conduct internal audits of financial processes and reports; flag errors, inconsistencies, or risks.

  • Work with CPA to ensure audit readiness, accurate tax reporting, and general ledger integrity.

  • Ensure proper handling of capital equipment depreciation, fixed asset tracking, and overhead allocation.

  • Team Coordination

  • Collaborate with the team to enforce financial accountability across departments.

  • Mentor team members on financial discipline, systems use (QuickBooks, Procore), and basic forecasting techniques.

Ideal Qualifications

  • 15+ years in financial management, project accounting, or construction/engineering controls.

  • Proven experience in job costing, forecasting, and overseeing multi-division financial operations.

  • Familiarity with QuickBooks Online, Procore, or similar project management platforms.

  • Comfortable working with small, fast-moving teams and mentoring others without a large back-office staff.

  • Capable of balancing hands-on execution with high-level advisory.

  • Highly organized, analytical, and calm under pressure.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with FAR, cost-reimbursable contracts, or public agency billing.

  • CPA or MBA preferred, but not required.
