Job summary

Woodcraft Design Sanford is seeking a part-time commercial seamstress/sewer to support the upholstery team. You will sew covers for booths and cushions using industrial machines, following shop drawings and cut lists.

Experience with heavy materials like vinyl and faux leather is important, along with the ability to read simple drawings and maintain quality control. The role offers a friendly shop environment with paid training and opportunities to grow in a hands-on upholstery shop.

Responsibilities

• Sew upholstery covers for booths, banquettes, cushions and backs using industrial machines
• Follow shop drawings, cut lists and work orders for accuracy
• Sew vinyl, faux leather and heavy fabrics and assemble welting/piping, channels and tufting panels
• Create zippered covers and boxed cushions; ensure correct dimensions
• Check seams, tension and dimensions before passing to the next step
• Keep the sewing station clean, organized and in good working order
• Collaborate with cutting and upholstery teams to meet production schedules

About Us

Woodcraft Design builds custom commercial seating, including restaurant booths, banquettes and upholstered furniture for hospitality, healthcare and retail spaces. We’re a hands‑on shop that takes pride in clean, durable work, and we’re looking for a skilled sewer to join our upholstery team part‑time.

What You’ll Do

• Sew upholstery covers for booths, banquettes, seat cushions and backs using industrial sewing machines
• Work from shop drawings, cut lists and work orders to produce accurate, consistent pieces
• Sew vinyl, faux leather, commercial fabrics and other heavy‑duty materials
• Make welting/piping, channels, tufting panels, boxed cushions and zippered covers
• Check your work for straight seams, proper tension and correct dimensions before it moves on
• Keep your machine and workstation clean, organized and in good working order
• Work with the cutting and upholstery teams to keep jobs on schedule

What We’re Looking For

• 2+ years of experience on industrial sewing machines (walking foot / double needle a plus)
• Experience sewing upholstery, marine, automotive or other heavy materials
• Ability to read basic drawings and measurements
• Attention to detail and pride in quality work
• Reliable and able to work independently once trained
• Able to stand or sit for long periods and lift up to 20 lbs

Nice to Have

• Commercial or contract furniture experience
• Pattern‑making or cutting experience
• Familiarity with channel backs, tufting and diamond stitching

Schedule

• 16-24 hours per week, 2-3 days, 8 hrs per day
• Some flexibility available; extra hours possible during busy production periods
