Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator for a Pneumococcal disease study in the Charleston, SC area. The role is part-time (≈24 hours per week) with on-site responsibilities coordinating screenings, enrollments, and ongoing participant education.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Clinical Research Coordinator.
  • Minimum 2 years of patient recruitment experience in clinical trials.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on EMR experience in clinical/research settings.

  • Strong organizational skills for managing multiple participants and visits.
  • Confident verbal and written communication with participants and staff.

Job Title: Clinical Research Coordinator
Job Description

This part-time Clinical Research Coordinator position supports a Pneumococcal Disease clinical trial at a research site in the Charleston, SC area. You will play a key role in identifying and recruiting eligible participants, educating them about the study, and ensuring they remain engaged and compliant throughout the trial. The role requires strong clinical research experience, excellent organizational skills, and confident communication with both participants and research staff. The position is approximately 24 hours per week and involves direct interaction with electronic medical records and study participants in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Review electronic medical records (EMR) to assess potential participants against protocol-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria.

  • Pre-screen potential participants based on study eligibility requirements to determine suitability for enrollment.

  • Recruit and enroll participants into the clinical trial in accordance with study protocols and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Provide clear, thorough education to participants about the clinical trial, including study procedures, expectations, potential commitments, and follow-up requirements.

  • Conduct follow-up communications with participants to support retention and ensure ongoing adherence to study protocols.

  • Schedule in-person visits and follow-up appointments, and send reminders and relevant information to participants in a timely and organized manner.

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of chart reviews, pre-screening activities, and participant interactions within the EMR and study records.

  • Collaborate effectively with research staff to support smooth trial operations and high-quality data collection.

  • Ensure that all participant-related activities comply with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), HIPAA training standards, and site-specific procedures.

Essential Skills
  • Proven experience working as a Clinical Research Coordinator.

  • At least 2 years of experience in patient recruitment for clinical trials.

  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience using electronic medical records (EMR) in a clinical or research setting.

  • Training in HIPAA regulations to ensure proper handling of protected health information.

  • Training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) to support compliance with clinical research standards.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple participants, visits, and documentation simultaneously.

  • Confident verbal and written communication skills for interacting with participants and research staff.

  • Ability to interpret and apply protocol-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria during chart review and pre-screening.

  • Attention to detail when reviewing charts, documenting interactions, and maintaining study records.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience conducting chart reviews to identify eligible patients for clinical research studies.

  • Experience in pre-screening patients for clinical trials or research studies.

  • Familiarity with clinical trial workflows, including recruitment, consent, and follow-up processes.

  • Ability to build rapport with participants to encourage engagement and retention throughout the study.

  • Comfort working in a fast-paced research environment with shifting priorities.

  • Strong time management skills to balance recruitment, scheduling, and documentation responsibilities.

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in all participant interactions.

Work Environment

The role is part-time, averaging approximately 24 hours per week, and follows normal business hours. You will work in a fast-paced clinical research setting that requires consistent attention to detail and adherence to protocols. Daily work involves frequent use of electronic medical records, coordination of participant visits and follow-ups, and collaboration with research staff. The environment emphasizes accuracy, regulatory compliance, and clear communication to support successful execution of the clinical trial.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Charleston, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
