Job summary

Pooley Accounting Services is seeking an experienced accountant to manage accounting work for a portfolio of small business and nonprofit clients, taking ownership of deadlines and delivering accurate financial information with limited supervision.

The role includes onsite work in the St. Louis area, remote work, and occasional client visits. Strong QuickBooks Online skills are essential, with Xero experience strongly preferred and excellent communication with clients and teammates expected.

Qualifications

• At least five years of hands-on accounting experience.
• Strong QuickBooks Online skills, including reconciliations and financial reporting.
• Experience managing work for multiple clients/entities with independent judgment.
• Payroll processing experience and deadlines.
• Clear, professional client communication.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Comfort working onsite and remotely with limited supervision.
• Xero experience preferred.
• Google Workspace experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage assigned client accounting work, priorities, and deadlines independently.
• Maintain books in QuickBooks Online and Xero where applicable.
• Reconcile bank, credit card, and other balance sheet accounts; investigate discrepancies.
• Complete month-end accounting and review financial statements for accuracy.
• Process and manage payroll for assigned clients, meeting deadlines.
• Assist with bill pay, expense tracking, and tax/audit preparation.
• Review client work and recommend corrections/improvements.
• Serve as day-to-day contact for assigned clients and follow up on outstanding information.
• Document work and communicate significant issues promptly.
• Track time spent on client work and other activities.
