Job summary

First Presbyterian Church of Jackson in Jackson, MS is seeking a part-time Nursery Staff member to provide loving, Christ-centered care for infants and preschoolers during church services and events. You will supervise children, maintain a safe space, and support families in a ministry setting.

Responsibilities include caring for children, coordinating check-in/out, cleaning and organizing the nursery, and collaborating with volunteers.

Qualifications

• Experience caring for infants and young children, professionally or personally.
• Dependable, patient, and gentle demeanor with children.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills within a church setting.
• Must pass a background check and MinistrySafe certification before starting.
• CPR and First Aid certification required; church training preferred within 3 months.
• Experience in a church or ministry setting is preferred.
• Ability to lift children up to 30 pounds and move between classrooms.

Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, nurturing care to infants and preschoolers during services and events.
• Maintain a safe, calm, clean space reflecting FPC values; engage in age-appropriate play.
• Communicate with parents and manage check-in/check-out procedures per safety protocols.
• Collaborate with nursery staff and volunteers to ensure proper ratios and smooth transitions.
• Assist with light cleaning, laundry, and organization when not actively supervising children.
• Follow all safeguarding procedures and report incidents to the Nursery Coordinator promptly.
