Job description

Southeastern Community College Center for Business is seeking an experienced Class A CDL Driver for a part-time instructor position.


Both Class A and Class B instructors are needed, or applicants with experience in both.


A minimum of 5 years of CDL Class A and/or Class B experience is required.


Job Summary:

The Instructor will conduct entry-level Commercial Driver License (CDL) road and yard training. Promote students' successful attainment of employment upon graduation. Instruct defensive driving techniques and educate students on the safe and professional operation of a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal and State regulations. Assess individuals’ ability to demonstrate the necessary skills, including knowledge of pre-trip inspections, road, and backing skills.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provide hands-on instruction in the safe and professional operation of a commercial motor vehicle in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  2. Provide safety oversight throughout all training evaluations in accordance with course curriculum and company safety policy.
  3. Master training requirements, compliance standards, and company policies to improve the processes and better facilitate training needs as directed by CBIZ Programmer.
  4. Provide management of students in field training environments.
  5. Coordinate the use of equipment resources and training range.
  6. Ensure training skills and criteria are assessed and scores are properly recorded for each individual.
  7. Observe, mentor and make recommendations respective to individual training and developmental needs.
  8. Evaluate students individually on their operational skills and assess their progress during each training evaluation according to course curriculum.
  9. Counsel students as needed regarding skill issues and adherence to DOT and company regulations.
  10. Train students in areas of weakness through constructive feedback and adult learning processes.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Adjunct teaching contracts are subject to cancellation due to low student enrollment.
