Job summary

Somerville Public Schools is seeking Intermittent Lunch Attendants to supervise students and assist cafeteria staff. The role is part-time, with an as-needed schedule, and may vary weekly. Responsibilities include ensuring student safety, organizing lunch areas, and supporting recycling and cleanup efforts.

Training and CORI clearance are required. The position reports to the Food Services Director and is paid $20.85 per hour with a maximum of up to 19 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Ensure student safety during lunch period, recess, and other school activities indoors and outdoors.
• Remain attentive and vigilant to prevent unsafe actions or conditions.
• Maintain orderly lunch lines and assist with table organization during recess and lunch.
• Guide students to help clean their eating area as appropriate.
• Assist in Recycling and Composting efforts in the lunchroom.
• Distribute lunch materials as needed.
• Help younger students with opening milk cartons, condiments, or packaged items.
• Follow sanitary practices, including hand washing and wearing gloves when serving food or assisting students.
• Follow rotation schedules to supervise students at all times.
• Ensure safe transitions from lunch to recess and from recess back to classrooms.
• Report problems or emergencies to the cafeteria supervisor or principal as required.
• Maintain respectful conduct with all students and staff.
