Job summary

Variety Wholesalers, Inc. in North Carolina is seeking an Assistant Manager/Key Carrier to support store operations and deliver excellent customer service.

You will assist with hiring, training, and development of the store team, and help manage daily functions under the Store Manager. Responsibilities include opening/closing duties in the manager's absence, protecting store assets, maintaining the stockroom and sales floor, and ensuring productivity standards.

Qualifications

• Prefer prior retail and management experience.
• Ability to lift, bend and transport merchandise weighing up to 50lbs; frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, and repetitive lifting.

Responsibilities

• Assist with hiring, training and development of store team members as delegated by the Store Manager
• Assist with all store functions and daily activities as directed by the Store Manager
• Open and close procedures in the absence of the Store Manager
• Protect and secure store assets, including cash
• Maintain a professional environment for customers, subordinates, and supervisors
• Maintain stockroom and sales floor to company standards including recovery
• Direct supervision for hourly Team Members when Store Manager is not present
• Assist with receipt/return of DSD merchandise and freight flow
• Meet or exceed productivity standards
• Assist with ordering and stocking merchandise and maintaining stockroom organization
• Ensure sales floor is sales-effective daily
• Follow Store Operations Weekly Bulletin directives

Position Purpose

Big Lots is seeking motivated individuals to support our Stores as we provide essential products at great values to the communities we serve.

Summary

As a Big Lots Assistant Manager/Key Carrier you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service to our customers and supporting the Store Manager with the overall operation of the store to achieve company deliverables.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with the hiring, training and development of store team members as delegated by the Store Manager
• Assist with all store functions and day-to-day store activities as directed by the Store Manager
• Able to perform all opening and closing procedures in the absence of the Store Manager
• Assist the Store Manager in protecting and securing all company assets, including store cash.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures including safety guidelines.
• Maintain a professional and friendly environment with customers, subordinates, and supervisors.
• Maintain all areas of the store, including the stockroom and sales floor, to company standards to include recovery.
• When the Store Manager is not on the premises, direct supervisory responsibility for all hourly Team Members.
• Process all SSC Corporate directives.
• Assist the Store Manager on the receipt and return of DSD merchandise.
• Assist Store Manager in the management of freight flow.
• Meet or exceed productivity standards.
• Assist the Store Manager in ordering and stocking all merchandise needs.
• Assist the Store Manager in maintaining stockroom organization.
• Assist the Store Manager in ensuring that the sales floor is sales effective daily.
• Assist the Store Manager in planning and implementing all directives in the Store Operations Weekly Bulletin.

Qualifications

• Prefer prior retail and management experience.

• Ability to lift, bend and transport merchandise weighing up to 50lbs from floor level to above shoulder height; must be able to meet demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, and repetitive lifting, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Ability to work flexible, part-time schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
