Job summary

Dierbergs Markets, Inc. is seeking an Asset Protection Associate in Missouri for a part-time role (up to 20 hours/week).

The position focuses on delivering friendly service while maintaining a visible presence to deter theft and protect customers, associates, merchandise, and company assets. You will observe activity, coordinate with Loss Prevention and Store Management, and use calm communication to de-escalate tense situations.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 and have dependable transportation.
• Must pass a background check and obtain Security Licensing (Dierbergs pays for licensing).
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year of customer service experience; retail/safety/loss prevention preferred.
• Observant, professional, and able to stay composed under pressure.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Asset Protection Associate supports a safe, welcoming shopping and working environment by combining attentive customer service with a professional, highly visible presence, supporting Dierbergs' Grow Every Day purpose and commitment to Better Execution. This role partners closely with Loss Prevention and Store Management to identify concerns, deter theft and disruptive behavior, respond to known issues, and help de-escalate situations in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. The ideal candidate is calm, observant, approachable, and committed to protecting customers, associates, merchandise, and company assets. This is a part-time position, working up to 20 hours a week.

How You'll Make an Impact

• Deliver courteous, respectful customer service by greeting customers, offering assistance, answering questions, and helping maintain a positive store experience
• Maintain a professional and visible presence throughout assigned areas to promote customer service, safety, deter theft, and discourage disruptive or unsafe behavior

Observing, Responding & De-escalating

• Observe store activity and recognize behaviors or conditions that may present a safety, security, or asset-protection concern
• Partner with the Loss Prevention Monitoring Station and Store Management to communicate known issues, coordinate appropriate responses, and support consistent execution of store and company procedures
• Use calm, respectful, and non-confrontational communication to help de-escalate tense situations and reduce risk to customers and associates
• Respond promptly to calls for assistance involving customer concerns, disturbances, suspicious activity, safety hazards, or other incidents
• Support theft-deterrence efforts through attentive observation, customer engagement, and adherence to approved Loss Prevention practices
• Act as a liaison between Loss Prevention and Law Enforcement

Documenting & Maintaining Compliance

• Document incidents accurately, objectively, and promptly, including relevant observations, actions taken, and notifications made
• Protect confidential and sensitive information and exercise sound judgment in all interactions
• Participate in training and remain current on safety, security, de-escalation, and Loss Prevention procedures

Supporting Safety & Emergency Response

• Assist with emergency procedures, evacuations, severe-weather response, and coordination with emergency services when directed
• Help maintain clear entrances, exits, aisles, and work areas by identifying and reporting hazards or unsafe conditions

About You

• Must be at least 18 years of age and have dependable means of transportation
• Must be able to pass a background check and secure proper Security Licensing (Dierbergs will pay for licensing)
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum of one year of customer service experience required; additional experience in retail, safety, security, or loss prevention preferred
• Proven situational awareness and a naturally observant approach, with sound judgment and attention to detail to recognize and report unusual activity or safety concerns
• Professional, approachable demeanor with strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, including the ability to remain composed and respectful under pressure
• Ability to follow established policies, maintain confidentiality, and work effectively with store leaders and Loss Prevention partners
• Availability to work a flexible retail schedule, to include evenings, weekends, and holidays
