Job summary

The City of Zephyrhills is accepting applications for a Parks Maintenance Worker I to perform turf, landscape, irrigation, and basic carpentry tasks at the City Maintenance Facility. The position involves operating heavy equipment and following safety protocols, with occasional weekend work and mandatory testing.

Starting salary is $32,760 per year ($15.75 per hour) with benefits including medical, dental, life insurance, and Florida Retirement System.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work well with the public and co-workers.

  • Pay Grade Z-151

Non-Exempt / Mandatory Testing

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to understand and follow oral/written instructions and work well with the public and co-workers.
• Applicants must be able to lift heavy objects, walk over rough or uneven surfaces, stoop, stretch, kneel and work in confined spaces.
• Must have knowledge of safe operations and routine maintenance of equipment.
• FL Right-of-Way Pesticide license within six (6) months, FSESCI within ninety (90) days, MOT within one (1) year.
• Must have or be able to obtain a Class B CDL with air brake endorsement within six (6) months of hire.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

• Mows, trims and fertilizes turf and plantings. Individuals operate heavy equipment, turf maintenance equipment and small hand tools.
• Installs irrigation systems and performs maintenance on those systems.
• Will perform light carpentry work, paint objects and structures.
• Workers also provide year-round landscape and planting maintenance.
• Occasional weekend work, when required. Completes other related duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

• The selected candidate will have a background check completed, undergo drug testing, and complete a physical exam before employment.
• Tasks completed for this position involve regular and sustained physical exertion.
• Possession and maintenance of a Florida driver license is also required before employment.

The compensation package will start at the base salary range and may vary based on proven abilities of the individual selected. The City of Zephyrhills has an excellent benefit package, which includes medical, dental, life insurance, and Florida Retirement System (FRS).
