Job descriptionPOSITION DESCRIPTIONTitle: Parks LaborerDepartment: Parks and RecreationUnion: Public WorksDate: 7/1/2024GENERAL PURPOSEPerforms a variety of unskilled labor and maintenance work in construction, operation, repair, maintenance of town owned parks and recreation facilities. May operate a variety of tools and equipment on a limited basis. This position is primarily an outside position where you will be required to work in the elements.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Works under the immediate supervision of the Parks CaretakerSUPERVISION EXERCISEDNoneESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESHelps perform routine maintenance in town owned parks and recreation facilities.Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.Performs required labor involved in maintenance projects as part of a crew, including weed whacking, lawn mowing, weeding, lawn treatment, fence repair, bench repair and basic carpentry.Performs general custodial duties for parks and recreation bathrooms to include parks trash cans.Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.May drive trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, gravel and sand.May assists with snow and ice removal by mixing and spreading sand and salt and by feeding sand into mechanical spreader.Cuts brush and wood; hauls and loads gravel, soil, lumber and other materials; cleans grounds; may drive dump truck or other vehicle.Assists in planting and fertilizing work at parks; shovels snow; mows lawns; rakes leaves.PERIPHERAL DUTIESServes on various employee or other committees as assigned.DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:• Any equivalent combination of education and experience necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:• Some knowledge of equipment facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities.• Some skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment.• Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.
