Job summary

City of Gainesville, FL is hiring a semi-skilled/ skilled Parks Maintenance Worker I to perform planting, turf, and equipment operation for parks and athletic fields. The role requires passion for outdoor work and ability to follow detailed maintenance schedules.

Responsibilities include installing plantings, operating mowers and trucks, performing preventative maintenance, and assisting with repairs. CDL may be required depending on assignment; a valid FL license is needed.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school or equivalent and two+ years in laboring work with tools and equipment.
• Valid driver license; class A or B CDL may be required within 3 months depending on assignment.
• Knowledge of horticultural practices and landscape maintenance.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and operate park maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities

• Install city trees, shrubs and bedding plants, including site prep and planting.
• Operate lawn and heavy equipment to maintain parks, athletic fields and grounds.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
• Apply fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides as qualified.
• Assist in building and repairing park structures and displays.
