Job description

The Park Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations at a specific County Park which includes supervising park staff. In addition, the Park Supervisor will work with volunteers, friends groups and any site support group(s).

  • Manages daily operations of the park in accordance with best practices and standards for parks, recreation, natural resource management and environmental stewardship.
  • Assists Region Manager with overall administration of the site including budget, purchasing, scheduling, payroll, evaluating site personnel, reports, visitor counts, and consistent professional customer service (internal and external).
  • In cooperation with the Region Manager, supervises and coordinates personnel engaged in grounds and building maintenance
  • Works with Region Manager and staff to ensure a safe and enjoyable park experience.
  • Assists Region Manager with planning, prioritizing and directing work schedules for projects and specific programs based upon the park’s mission;
  • Works with Region Manager to identify sources of outside funding including grant administration, private partnerships and donations in accordance with the park’s mission.
  • Coordinates with Region Foreman, Ranger Supervisor, and Environmental Educator about site specific projects, programs and daily operations;
  • Manages any outside contractors or lease/easement agreements with outside organizations.
  • Participates in the planning process for park improvements and new facilities.
  • Performs routine inspections of the park and project sites to ensure that they are clean, safe and maintained at an acceptable level.
  • Coordinates and communicates with other natural resource related agencies and organizations.
  • Oversees the coordination of volunteers, interns and community service workers.
  • Oversees and assists with boat storage rentals, campgrounds reservations/on-line internet site maintenance, lake dam(s) planning and maintenance coordination, boat rental coordination (w/ third-party operator), and other operational duties/coordination as assigned.
  • Participates in all park programs and events.
  • Responsible for providing staff training on all required County and division policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates marketing efforts (website/digital content/social media/print) including flyers, brochures, calendar of events, etc.
  • Works with Regional staff to ensure site security and maintenance needs are completed.
  • Will be required to attend professional meetings and attend friends of group meetings.
  • Ability to carry out light maintenance for daily operations and events.
  • Required to take training as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Five (5) years’ experience working in the field of Parks and Recreation, Wildlife Management, Environmental Resource Management or related field with a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience required.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Park Management, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Resource Management or related field.
  • Must have an understanding of and ability to apply related laws, rules, regulations, ethics, standards, policies and procedures applicable to this work.
  • Must project a pleasant and professional presence when interacting with the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and possess good public speaking skills.
  • Expected to participate in appropriate organizations and affiliations related to this field.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to read/write/speak English.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record and the ability to maintain one throughout employment.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn when applicable.

  • Casual work attire.
  • Be available and responsive to all emergencies outside of normal working hours.
  • Required to work weekends, holidays and evenings as needed.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
