Job summary

Douglas County in Oregon seeks a Park Specialist to maintain parks, campgrounds and recreational areas. The role covers grounds-keeping, janitorial tasks, irrigation and minor repairs, with a focus on visitor information and safety.

You will work a flexible schedule including weekends, operate hand tools and equipment, and may lead seasonal staff. Excellent benefits, retirement program, and onsite childcare are included.

Qualifications

• Three years of relevant, progressively responsible work experience in a park, campground and/or recreational facility that includes visitor services and operations.
• Associates’ degree in Park & Recreation, Natural Resource Management or Environmental studies plus 1 year of relevant work experience.
• State of Oregon Pesticide/Herbicide Applicator License.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine grounds-keeping outdoors in varying weather conditions, including planting, mowing, pruning, and related upkeep; maintain wastewater system lines.
• Perform routine janitorial duties to maintain park facilities and equipment; restock supplies for restrooms and common areas.
• Operate and perform maintenance on hand tools and machinery; may lead temporary, seasonal or new employees or volunteers.
• Assist with structural maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities, including carpentry and plumbing tasks.
• Troubleshoot, repair and maintain irrigation systems and related electrical components.
