Job summary

The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is hiring for a Park Services Housekeeping role on a part-time, second-shift basis in Cincinnati, OH. The position runs evenings (3:30pm–11pm) with flexible weekend availability and a seasonal, non-benefited schedule.

Starting pay is $15.00/hr, with cross-training within Park Services and opportunities for personal and professional development. Responsibilities include cleaning offices, classrooms, and public spaces; trash removal; restroom cleaning; and

Qualifications

  • Detail oriented and self-motivated to identify tasks and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Able to engage with the public in a positive and friendly manner.
  • Experience in housekeeping or groundskeeping is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Clean offices, classrooms, exhibit buildings, and public spaces; sweep, trash removal, restroom cleaning, floor care.
  • Respond promptly to calls and requests for assistance from staff and guests.
  • Set up tables and chairs for events; assist with special cleaning during events.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and communicate resupply needs.

Position Summary: Under direction from the Park Services leadership team, performing duties in areas and facilities that require regular scheduled cleaning. Performs all janitorial and groundskeeping tasks including but not limited to: Building and restroom cleaning, emptying trash cans, picking and sweeping paths and parking lots. Using power equipment to clean floors, carpets, and open areas. Reports equipment malfunctions, breakages, and losses.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Seeking opportunities to create an inspired and positive experience for visitors by embodying the Zoo’s Core Values in daily work and interactions
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, a positive attitude, and a willingness to assist where needed
  • Perform janitorial and housekeeping duties in offices, classrooms, exhibit buildings, and public spaces, including but not limited to:
    • Sweeping and litter collection
    • Trash removal
    • Restroom cleaning
    • Floor care
  • Immediately respond to all calls and requests for assistance from employees and guests
  • Perform special cleaning assignments during regular operating hours and events, assisting other Zoo staff in areas needing special or immediate attention
  • Ensure proper inventory and usage of supplies, including communicating resupply needs.
  • Occasionally use a variety of cleaning equipment, including vacuums, blowers, floor machines, and similar tools
  • Participate in Event prep as needed by setting tables and chairs, vacuuming, removing trash before and after, and other related tasks as assigned.
  • Maximize the Visitor Experience through positive interactions with staff and guests while maintaining clean, accessible spaces
  • Follow all safety and security policies of The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden
  • Support department leadership with other housekeeping-related duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Employees must be 18 or older.
  • Detail oriented and self-motivated to identify tasks and work independently or as part of a team
  • Must be willing & able to occasionally work outdoors in all climates & varying weather conditions with prolonged standing/walking
  • Able to lift/move/carry up to 50lbs without assistance
  • Willing & able to engage with the public in a positive & friendly manner
  • While previous experience is not required, candidates with experience housekeeping, groundskeeping, or park services will be highly considered

  • Employment is contingent on passing a post-offer, pre-employment Drug Screening & Background Check
Availability:
  • This role works primarily evenings 3:30pm-11pm
    • Cross training within the Park Services team to pick up other hours may be possible
  • Employment is considered seasonal/non-benefited.
  • Variable hour can be between 15-35/week, not to exceed an annual average of 30 hours/week
    • Typical work week of 18-30 hours
  • Flexible scheduling that includes weekends and holidays
  • Minimum availability of 3 days per week, with 1 day being a weekend day (Saturday, Sunday)
    • Temporary exceptions for team members limited by school schedules
  • Starting pay rate is $15.00/hr.
