Job description

The Prince William County Department of Park & Recreation (DPR) has a service portfolio that includes 81 parks and facilities spread across 5,600 acres, two waterparks, four community pools, two indoor aquatic and fitness centers, three community centers, three golf courses, 60 miles of trails, 15 historic sites, and over 200 athletic fields.

About This Role:

The primary responsibility of this role is to protect park resources and enhance the visitor experience by patrolling PWC Parks and Facilities, ensuring a safe environment for all to enjoy; address safety concerns at the level of your Park Ranger Training and work with the PWC Polic Department for events of a criminal nature; provide outstanding customer service to our patrons and park visitors.

Minimum Requirements:

High School diploma or G.E.D. and 1 year of related experience defined as educating, directing, and dealing with the public in a professional manner.

Preferences:
  • Experience working or volunteering in law enforcement, military, public safety (school or commercial security or safety), parks and recreation, or hospitality.
  • Ability to pass the International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA) Mountain Bike Training Course.
  • Experience with alarm, keyless entry, and video camera systems.
  • Formal training and/or graduated from an accredited police academy or military basic training.
  • Ability to use modern technology, I.G., cell phone, computer, 2-way radio.
  • Ability to effectively communicate thoughts into an official written report to substantiate enforcement actions.
Special Requirements:
  • This position is exposed to extreme weather conditions. The incumbent must be able to stand and walk for extended periods in these conditions.
  • Must be able to walk long distances on uneven terrain.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and a safe driving record.
  • Must pass a DPR conducted DMV records check. All hires 18 and older must pass a criminal background check, and fingerprinting may be required.
  • Ability to pass all aspects of training that prepare Rangers for their specific duties. This will include classroom, on-the-job, and demonstrate the ability to adapt this training to real-life scenarios.
Work Schedule:
  • This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week), and may be assigned to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • The work schedule is subject to change in hours and assigned days off on short notice.

Hiring Salary Range: $25.00 - $26.00
