Job summary

Arizona State Parks and Trails is seeking a Park Ranger Assistant for Cattail Cove State Park in Lake Havasu City. This seasonal/temporary position requires working evenings, weekends, and holidays, with shifts up to 40 hours per week and up to 1500 hours per calendar year.

The role involves assisting visitors, handling park admissions, enforcing rules, and leading interpretive programs. A valid AZ driver's license and possible EMT/CPR training may be required.

Job Summary:

Under supervision, performs a variety of work activities while providing customer service in the operation of a water based outdoor recreational camping park; interprets natural features of the area, or historic objects/artifacts for visitors and ensures public safety by enforcing Park rules and regulations.

Job Duties:
Customer Service:
  • Provides customer service by phone and in person and respond to publics inquiries about park hours, accommodations and reservations.
Cash Handling:
  • Perform cashier duties at Contact Station/Gift Shop for park admission and store purchases.
  • Collect and account for CACO shorline campsite park fees and visitation.
Public & Staff Safety:
  • Promote the safety of park visitors and enforce Park rules and protect Park resources.
  • Utilize two-way radio communications system.
  • Confers with local officials and law enforcement officers.
  • Completes all necessary reports concerning incidents.
Outdoor Recreation & Programmatic:
  • Host visitors.
  • Conducts interpretive programs and may lead guided walks or hikes.
  • Provides information in response to visitor questions, directions, guidance, and concerns.
  • Ensuring boat in sites are in good condition.
General Maintenance and Cleaning:
  • General cleaning of facilities as necessary.
  • Maintains campgrounds and all restrooms, in clean, sanitary conditions.
  • Sweep and mop floors,cleani toilets, restock towels, toilet paper, soap dispensers.
  • Maintains and inspects all park and shoreline campsite facilities; litter removal, trail and irrigation system maintenance.
Public & Staff Safety:
  • Promote the safety of park visitors and enforce Park rules and protect Park resources.
  • Utilize two-way radio communications system.
  • Confers with local officials and law enforcement officers.
  • Completes all necessary reports concerning incidents.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
  • Working knowledge of Arizona and regional history, objects and documents.
  • Working knowledge of curation methods utilized in conserving, preparing, storing, and exhibiting museum objects and documents, or minerals.
  • Working knowledge of historical research techniques.
  • Considerable knowledge of museum policies and guidelines.
  • Basic knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. Park rules, fees and revenue functions.
  • Techniques for display and interpretation of objects/ artifacts and general resources to visitors.
  • General office procedures.

Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate for this position will have One year of customer service experience equivalent; OR a Bachelor's degree in Park Management, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or a closely related field. Any combination of training and experience that meet knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Must possess and maintain a current Arizona Driver’s license appropriate to assignment. Some positions may require certification as an Emergency Medical Technician/ CPR/AED. If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver’s License Requirements. All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Retirement:
