Job summary

Oak Brook Park District is seeking a seasonal, part-time Parks crew member to help maintain the outdoors, plant trees, manage landscaping and athletic fields, assist with events, and keep the parks in top condition.

This role offers roughly 24 hours per week with daytime shifts, plus occasional evenings and weekends for field prep, events, and snow removal operations. Applicants must be 17+, possess a valid Illinois Driver's License (Class D), and be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 17 years old and in good physical condition with sufficient strength to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Valid Illinois State Driver's License (Class D).

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with the Superintendent of Parks regularly on Park District matters.
  • Perform landscape maintenance operations for the Park District, including athletic field and landscape maintenance.
  • Assist Recreation Department requests for set-up, construction, and repair of special event props.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills in all communications.
  • Support the District’s safety initiative and address hazards in the workplace.

Pay: $18/hour

Do you like working outdoors and making a difference in the community? Come join the Oak Brook Park District Parks crew! You will work alongside experienced staff while learning how to plant trees, maintain landscaping and athletic fields, assist with special events, and keep the parks looking their very best.

Hours

This flexible part-time position offers approximately 24 hours per week outdoors doing general maintenance in the parks. Weekday shifts are typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Evening and weekend hours may be required to assist with athletic field preparation, special events, and snow removal operations.

Education, Experience and Training:
  • Must be at least 17 years of age and in good physical condition with sufficient strength to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Valid Illinois State Drivers License (Class D)
Essential Job Duties:
  • Communicate with the Superintendent of Parks regularly on Park District matters.
  • Perform landscape maintenance operations for the Park District. This includes, but not limited to:
    • Athletic Field Maintenance: baseball ball diamond infields, soccer fields, football fields,basketball courts, tennis courts, and installation and maintenance of necessary apparatusof each field use.
    • Landscape Maintenance: soil grading and preparation, tree plantings, tree trimming, treewatering, mulch bed maintenance, and flower bed maintenance.
  • Assist Recreation Department requests for set-up, construction, and repair of special event props.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer services skills in all communications.
  • Support the District’s safety initiative including adhering to policies and procedures, performing your job in a safe manner, attending required training, seeking additional training as needed, promptly reporting accidents/incidents, and proactively addressing hazards in the workplace.
