Job summary

City of Mesquite is seeking a park maintenance worker to perform semi-skilled duties in planting, care, and maintenance of park grounds. The position pays $15.75/hr minimum to $19.68/hr max, depending on qualifications, and requires a valid driver’s license.

The role involves trimming trees and shrubs, mowing, edging lawns, weed control, litter pickup, and assisting in urban forestry and citywide tree programs. Monday–Friday with overtime and weekend requirements may apply.

Qualifications

  • Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  • Three (3) months of park maintenance or landscape experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a variety of plant maintenance and landscape duties including trimming trees and shrubs, pulling weeds, mowing and edging lawns, raking recreation areas, watering plants and trees, sweeping, and clearing fallen trees from the public paths and walkways.
  • Participate in a variety of park facilities maintenance duties and clearing debris from the parking lots.
  • Drive to and from destinations as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Operate a variety of tools and equipment including power tools, lawn mowers, trucks, and tractors; perform general maintenance duties including refueling, and lubricating parts; make minor adjustments as necessary.
  • Assist in park inspections to ensure the safety of the public and park facilities; note possible safety hazards or causes of injury; perform general maintenance and repair to park facilities as required.
  • Pick up litter from grounds and empty trash containers throughout assigned parks.
  • Participate in the Urban Forestry Program; participate in citywide tree planting and various other tree programs.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
  • Maintain work, time and material records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Salary: $15.75/hr. minimum - $19.68/hr. max (Depending on qualifications)

SUPERVISION

General supervision is provided by a District Park Supervisor.

  • All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct and Rules of Behavior as outlined in Chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.

EDUCATION

EXPERIENCE

Three (3) months of park maintenance or landscape experience.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Possession of a valid driver's license.

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday - Friday; 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Required overtime and weekends as needed.
