Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Eastern Territory in Dayton is seeking a Part Time Recreation Assistant to support basketball programming and related activities at Kroc Park. You will supervise facilities, coordinate leagues, rentals, and tournaments, and help run camps and corps programs.

The role requires good character, strong English communication, and flexibility to work evenings and weekends. You will be on-site for events and assist with safety and program operations.

Responsibilities

• Implementation and supervision of programs at Kroc Park, including monitoring facilities, special events, classes, field trips, rentals, leagues, and tournaments.
• Display good character and passion for impacting others through sports and recreation.
• Show a good understanding of sports.
• Use excellent communication skills to work positively with different populations and build rapport with clients.
• Ensure a safe and healthy environment for participants.
• Provide advanced notice to the Athletic Program Supervisor if unable to attend a scheduled shift.
• Work evenings and weekend hours as needed for sports programs.
• Be on site during rentals, games, programs, and tournaments.
• Set up and tear down all equipment.
• Maintain restrooms, ensuring cleanliness and stocking supplies.
• Handle all official payments and obtain signatures from officials before games.
• Act as on-site coordinator for issues with program members, parents, or opposing teams.
• Evacuate players and spectators if the Lightning alarm goes off.
• Maintain fields and courts, ensuring timeliness.
• Record match results and track statistics.
• Enforce rules and officiate ceremonies and events.
• For tournaments: bracket and team communication, referee coordination, field/court setup, volunteer management, and enforcement of rules.
• Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by the Fitness and Recreation Management Teams.

Function

The person in this position will fill all basketball program needs and will assist with other programs as directed by their management. The nature of the task and responsibilities will change to some degree based upon the program they are assisting in; but their character and attitude must always promote the Christian faith and be in keeping with the Mission of The Salvation Army.

• For tournaments: bracket and team communication, referee coordination, field/court setup, volunteer management, and enforcement of rules.
• Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by the Fitness and Recreation Management Teams.
