Job summary

Forsyth County Parks & Recreation is seeking a Maintenance and Operations Assistant to act as a liaison between the public and park facilities in Cumming, GA. The role supports facility preparation, visitor services, grounds maintenance, and park operations to help provide safe, clean, and enjoyable outdoor recreation experiences.

Duties include monitoring facilities, opening/closing, custodial and grounds tasks, basic cleaning, and reporting issues to a supervisor.

Job description

The purpose of this classification is to act as a liaison between the public, park visitors, and the Parks & Recreation Department while performing general maintenance and operational support at parks and recreational facilities. This position assists with facility preparation, visitor services, grounds maintenance, and park operations to help provide safe, clean, and enjoyable outdoor recreation experiences.

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Monitors parks and recreational facilities, to include outdoor activity areas, buildings, and trails; including unlocking facilities and securing facilities and preparing facilities for park users’ enjoyment, provides customer service; monitors activity of park users according to park ordinances and facility rules.

Performs general maintenance work involving grounds maintenance, custodial maintenance and general building maintenance, which may include cleaning restrooms, to include sweeping, mopping, cleaning mirrors, or disinfecting toilets/sinks; disposes of litter from facilities and grounds.

Monitors and inspects park facilities to identify problems, needed repairs, or other situations requiring attention, such as vandalism and facility issues; reports problem situations to supervisor.

Operates a variety of hand tools associated with projects and work activities.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

This classification is designated as a safety sensitive position, which is subject to random drug and alcohol testing and any other drug testing methods as stated in policies adopted by Forsyth County concerning drug and alcohol.

Must be capable of clerical work, simple math and have some computer skills.

Must wear staff clothing provided to work site.

Must be willing to work outdoors/indoors, flexible hours, nights, and weekends.

Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.

Performs other related duties as required.

Must be 16 years of older with the ability to perform all essential position functions; must be able to communicate effectively with the public and co-workers; must be neatly groomed and be willing to wear and maintain county-issued clothing; must be willing to work in a variety of weather conditions; must be present and punctual on all scheduled days. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
