JOB SUMMARYUnder the general direction of the Assistant Director of Park Operations, the Park Area Coordinator ensures the facility conditions of assigned park region providing an opportunity for a positive experience. This employee is assigned to multiple parks of various sizes within a region such as North, South or Central area of the City of Brookhaven. This person is a resource of information for the public; regularly answering questions and providing information regarding park facts, rules, rentals, and the park system. They will provide an onsite presence, patrolling their assigned park territories regularly serving as the face for that area. Work also involves some Ad-Hoc duties that will include coordinating and working with Custodians, Maintenance, Brookhaven connect and Events manager as necessary to cover all areas of facility upkeep and appearance. The operation of a variety of light to specialized semi-skilled tasks in a custodial and maintenance service capacity. May assist other parks and recreation divisions in posting and maintaining informational boards, reservation notices and setup for events and park activities as necessary.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Oversees multiple small park projects and renovations to existing facilities.
  • Inspects and patrols parks, recognizes and responds to needed maintenance and safety hazards, and significant repair requests. Communicating with Custodian, maintenance and/or law enforcement as needed regarding all safety concerns including illegal dumping
  • May serve as liaison and assist the assigned crew of primarily semi-skilled and/or skilled workers, to perform a variety of maintenance activities
  • Assists and review the preparation of engineering plans and specifications for park capital maintenance and improvements. Meeting with contractors to discuss projects before, during, and after completion to advise and ensure standards are met.
  • Oversees the overall care and appearance of assigned territory through effective coordination with Parks and Recreation Department, custodial staff, maintenance staff, the Facilities Services Department, the City Arborists, and other City departments as needed.
  • Oversees maintenance, lining, and policing of athletic fields and playgrounds through effective coordination with Parks and Recreation Department, Facilities Services Department, City vendors, and other City departments as needed.
  • Ensures proper disposal of waste and byproducts in accordance with applicable standards and procedures.
  • Ensures safe and proper use of required protective gear, safety equipment, new machinery, tools, products, and waste disposal procedures as needed
  • Attends meetings and training sessions as required while maintaining records of all required training sessions and any safety violations
  • Required to respond to emergency maintenance requests as received or communicated through Brookhaven connect.
  • Serve as Liaison to event manager to assist with set up and tear down of equipment and materials for special events as needed.
  • Works independently to make decisions by selecting appropriate procedures, and methods to complete tasks and delegating accordingly.
  • Represents the department and City at meetings and events as needed, acting as liaison between citizens, contractors, and employees, addressing citizen inquiries or concerns about programs, facilities, rules, athletic fields, and park amenities.
  • Must be able to endure varying weather conditions in a public outdoor/recreational setting
  • Ability to prioritize, inspect work, organize with other workers, and communicate with relevant Department head regarding maintenance needs and supplies
  • Cleans, maintains, and prepares equipment for operations.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Georgia Driver’s license and able to obtain First aid / CPR certification within first 90dys
  • Two (2) years of experience in general maintenance and repair or natural area or facilities maintenance
  • Or an equivalent combination of training or certification in a technical course, safety, machinery operations, horticulture, landscaping.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of general maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in working with tools.
  • Skill in the use and care of general maintenance and repair equipment and tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with other employees and the public
  • Ability to perform manual and skilled labor in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to project and sustain a positive image and attitude towards the public using proper etiquette, speech and body language.
