Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance and/or business management or equivalent experience.
  • 8–10 years of management/leadership experience; executive level preferred.
  • Strong accounting knowledge and ability to produce financial statements.
  • Experience budgeting (minimum $1 million annual budget).
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks.
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Significant technology competency and ability to learn new systems; report writing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; adept presenter.
  • Hands-on HR experience: recruiting, retention, performance management.
  • Collaborative work style.
  • Knowledge of Catholic Church teachings.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Church of Saint Gregory the Great is a large suburban Roman Catholic Church in the Diocese of Trenton, New Jersey, which serves the populations of Hamilton Square, Robbinsville, and the surrounding area.The Parish includes St. Gregory the Great Academy, a large and thriving pre-K, elementary and middle school.

POSITION

The Parish Business Manager, reporting to the pastor, manages the Parish Office and has responsibility for the day-to-day administration of the parish finances, operations, facilities, and human resources, working in collaboration with the pastor and Academy principal as necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Administration
  • Manages the Parish Office, including the administrative staff and day-to-day office operations; manages the bookkeeper and business office; manages the parish maintenance staff, in collaboration with the pastor and principal as needed
  • Principal point of contact for parish human resources: hiring, terminations, incidents, grievances, performance management, benefits, retirements, etc.
  • Understand and implement Diocesan policies for financial reporting, human resources, and parish management.
  • Work with and manage volunteers in their service to the parish, and the needs of a diversity of church ministries and organizations.
Finance
  • Oversee all parish finances, including bank and investment accounts, bank reconciliations, ministry budgeting and expense tracking for the parish and Academy
  • Prepare annual parish budget with support from the Finance Council and support the Academy principal in his/her budget preparation.
  • Prepare quarterly financial reports and investment analyses for the pastor and Finance Council; engage the accountant in quarterly review and report preparation
  • Prepare and publish financial data for the parish's Annual Report
  • Oversee and monitor parish payroll, using the mandated payroll system.
  • Oversee parish disbursements and accounts payable (invoice payments, check requests, reimbursements, etc.).
  • Work with pastor on parish fundraising initiatives, including detailed donation tracking.
Operations
  • Procure materials and supplies for office and parish use (hard and soft goods).Work with individual staff, volunteers, ministries and organizations on their specific needs
  • Oversee the custodial and maintenance staff in the upkeep, renovation, and repair of parish facilities and grounds.This includes the management of service and maintenance contracts, vendors, and procurement of bids for work and engaging contractors. Collaborate with the pastor and principal as required.
  • Oversee parish technological needs: IT, equipment, communications; collaborate closely with Academy principal.
  • Direct and contribute to decisions about parish security processes, procedures and equipment, including oversight and administration of federal and state security grants.
QUALIFICATIONS
Mandatory
  • Bachelor's degree in finance and/or business management or equivalent experience
  • 8-10 years of management/leadership experience; executive level preferred
  • Well-versed in general accounting and the production of financial statements
  • Experience in budgeting (minimum $1 million annual budget)
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks)
  • Highly proficient in MS Office, notably Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Significant technology competency, skills and acuity; ability to learn new systems; query and report writer capabilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; adept presenter
  • Hands-on human resources experience, e.g., employee recruiting, retention, performance management
  • Highly collaborative work style
  • Knowledge of and willingness to develop additional proficiency in the teachings of the Catholic Church
Highly Desirable
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit and GAAP accounting
  • Experience in evaluating, selecting and implementing technology solutions
  • Familiarity with payroll systems; human resources systems a plus
  • General knowledge of federal and state employment laws
  • Understanding of basic desktop/laptop configuration and LAN connectivity
  • Knowledge of Google Drive, Docs and Sheets
