Job summary

Jefferson County is seeking a Parent Partner to mentor and navigate families involved in the Child Welfare system. This role supports the Parents Supporting Parents (PSP) program and helps elevate parent voice for local and state policy and systems change.

The position focuses on empowering parents through the process with the Department, courts, and other system representatives, while handling required paperwork and reporting for the PSP program.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent is required.
A minimum of one year of personal lived experience in the Child Welfare system that includes having had a biological or adoptive child placed in out-of-home care.
Valid Wisconsin driver’s license required.
Preferred: education in social work, sociology, human services, counseling, or related field.

Responsibilities

Mentor and provide feedback, insight, and navigation to parents involved in the Child Welfare system.
Support Parents Supporting Parents (PSP) program and elevate parent voice for policy and system change.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Our Child and Family Programs provide a variety of services for families with children. We assist in coordinating supervision for juveniles, abused or neglected children, assist with counseling, parenting, groups for youth, case management, summer youth activities and assist with finding appropriate community resources and more intensive programs as needed.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The purpose of this position is to mentor and provide feedback, insight, and navigation to parents currently involved in the Child Welfare (CW) system. The Parent Partner is an essential member of the Parents Supporting Parents (PSP) Program and is part of efforts to elevate parent voice and involvement to support local and state policy and systems change.

SOME ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful, you will complete the below responsibilities:

Focuses on the goal of enhancing and improving permanency outcomes for families and acts as a role model who provides guidance based on a combination of training and personal first-hand experience.
Empowers and coaches parents through the process with the Department, courts, and other system representatives.
Completes paperwork, progress notes and other documentation necessary; completes PSP program reporting requirements for the Parents Supporting Parents Supervisor.
