Job summary

The Allentown School District is seeking a Parent Liaison to assist with and coordinate parental engagement activities across pupil personnel services, aligning with Chapter Seven of the PA School Code. The role focuses on communications, policies, safety matters, and programs aimed at improving student achievement through active parent involvement.

The position supports information dissemination to parents, helps families adapt to school settings, maintains detailed records, and facilitates

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in social work, community relations or related field.
  • Experience in school/community relations and parental programs; knowledge of ASD preferred.
  • Clearances (Acts 34, 114, 151) required.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as determined by supervisor.
  • Additional qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in disseminating information to parents about school and community activities.
  • Helps students and parents integrate into a new school setting.
  • Keeps accurate records of parental and community involvement activities.
  • Facilitates ongoing communication with community, families, school and the District.
  • Communicates the District Code of Conduct and ASD communications protocol.
  • Provides translation services depending on building availability.
  • Supports parent/community involvement targets and develops strategies to meet goals.
  • Seeks parent/community partnerships to improve student performance.
  • Develops home/school communication strategies.
  • Attends community meetings to promote involvement.
  • Participates on the school Safety Committee.
  • Collaborates with other school departments to meet position goals.
  • Participates in coordinated program of school/parent liaisons and volunteers.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $59,493 - $81,690


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in social work, community relations or related field.
  • Prior experience in areas related to school/community relations, working with compensatory education programs, working with parents or teaching students. Prior knowledge of and/or experience with the Allentown School District is preferred.
  • Satisfactory work record & criminal/child abuse clearances (Acts 34, 114, and 151).
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule (evenings and/or weekends) as determined by the supervisor.
  • Such additional or alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and Allentown School District Board of Directors deem appropriate and acceptable.

Summary

Assists with and coordinates parental engagement/involvement activities of pupil personnel services as defined in Chapter Seven (7) of the PA School Code, including communications, procedures/policies, security/safety matters and other special programs consistent with the charge of improving student achievement and parent engagement by assisting the Executive Director of Community and Student Services in performing the following duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assists in disseminating information to parents about school and community activities.
  • Assists in helping students and parents to integrate and assimilate into a new school setting.
  • Assists in keeping accurate and detailed records of parental and community involvement activities as they pertain to communications, safety and security planning.
  • Facilitates ongoing communications/customer service with community, families, school and the District.
  • Facilitates communication of the District Code of Conduct and assists parents/guardians with the ASD communications protocol.
  • Provide translation services depending on availability at the building.
  • Supports the implementation of school parent and community involvement targets and provides assistance in developing strategies to meet those goals in order to sustain parental support, involvement and communication.
  • Seeks parent and community partnerships around improving student performance in English language arts, mathematics and character development.
  • Develops strategies for improving home/school communication.
  • Attends community meetings to inform and promote community and school-wide community and parental involvement activities.
  • Participates as a member of the school Safety Committee.
  • Collaborates and cooperates with other school departments in meeting the goals of the position.
  • Participates in the coordinated program of school/parent liaisons, parent scholar, and volunteers.
