Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies to actively involve parents in their children's education, encouraging participation in school activities, events, and workshops.
  • Organize and facilitate regular meetings, workshops, and informational sessions for parents on educational topics, policies, and involvement opportunities.
  • Train parents in PowerSchool so they may access information about their student's progress.
  • Maintain open and effective lines of communication between parents, teachers, staff, and the school administration.
  • Create and distribute newsletters, digital communications, and other materials to keep parents informed.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and support staff to identify resources benefiting students and families, including academic support and community resources.
  • Assist families in accessing resources and programs available within the school and community.
  • Advocate for parents' perspectives within the school community and support addressing educational or social challenges their children may face.
  • Conduct home visits as a method to access the family and build relationships in response to school referrals.
  • Organize and coordinate school-wide events such as parent-teacher conferences, back-to-school nights, and family literacy events.
  • Maintain accurate records of parent engagement and communication efforts and use data to evaluate initiatives.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Parent Engagement Coordinator will play a crucial role in fostering strong connections between parents, guardians, teachers, and the school administration. As the liaison between home and school, the Parent Coordinator will work to enhance parental involvement, communication, and engagement in support of our students' success.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Parent Engagement
  • Develop and implement strategies to actively involve parents in their children's education, encouraging their participation in school activities, events, and workshops.
  • Organize and facilitate regular meetings, workshops, and informational sessions for parents to address educational topics, school policies, and opportunities for involvement.
  • Train parents in PowerSchool so that they may access information about their student's progress
Communication
  • Maintain open and effective lines of communication between parents, teachers, staff, and the school administration.
  • Create and distribute newsletters, digital communications, and other materials to keep parents informed about school events, programs, and important updates.
Resource Coordination
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and support staff to identify resources that will benefit students and families, including academic support, counseling services, and community resources.
  • Assist families in accessing resources, services, and programs available both within the school and the broader community.
Parent Advocacy
  • Advocate for parents' perspectives and concerns within the school community, ensuring their voices are heard and considered in decision‑making processes.
  • Provide support and guidance to parents seeking to address educational or social challenges their children may face.
  • As part of the Attendance Team, discuss with parents any issues related to a child's developmental progress and any other more challenging issues such as chronic absenteeism, non‑attendance and work with them to establish a plan of action.
Family Support
  • Offer guidance and support to parents in navigating the educational system, assisting with issues related to attendance, enrollment, and other administrative matters.
  • Works closely with universities, churches and community agencies to provide support to parents.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining parent centers at One City for the dissemination of information, resources and training.
  • Conduct home visits as a method to access the family, build relationships and conduct interviews in response to school/teacher referrals.
  • Collaborate with school staff to address students' individual needs and challenges, ensuring a holistic approach to education.
Event Planning
  • Organize and coordinate school‑wide events, such as parent‑teacher conferences, back‑to‑school nights, family literacy events, and celebrations.
  • Collaborate with school staff and parent volunteers to ensure the success of these events.
Data Management
  • Maintain accurate records of parent engagement and communication efforts, tracking participation rates, feedback, and outcomes.
  • Use data to evaluate the effectiveness of parent engagement initiatives and make recommendations for improvement

ROLE SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working in a school setting
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
  • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of One City.
  • Commitment to working with children from diverse racial/cultural populations and their families.
  • Ability to regularly and routinely lift and push at least 50 pounds.
  • Completion of a background check required.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
