Job summary

Springfield City School District in Ohio is seeking a part-time Parent Educator for the 2026-2027 school year. The position operates as an hourly role (up to 30 hours per week for 48 weeks per year) based at the Dome, 700 S Limestone St., Springfield, OH 45506.

Wage is $28.00/hour. The role focuses on personal visits, family-centered assessments, goal setting, and community referrals within the Parents as Teachers framework.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in early childhood education, social work, health or related field.
  • Experience working with young children and their parents.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish rapport with families and empower them by building on their strengths.
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Computer skills include web browsing, email, internet, and word processing.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, provide and document regular personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being using the Foundational Curriculum Prenatal to 5 Years.
  • Complete an initial and annual family-centered assessment with each family.
  • Develop, monitor, and review goals with each family. Connect them to resources that help them reach their stated goals and address their needs.
  • Maintain and submit in a timely manner all required family and program documentation. Organize and inventory supplies, materials, etc.
  • Represent the Parents as Teachers program at various community events supporting families and/or young children. Engage in recruitment activities.
  • Coordinate services with other community programs offering services to parents and their young children.
  • Obtain competency-based professional development and renew parent educator certification annually. Participate in at least two hours of reflective supervision and staff meetings monthly.

Job description

Who We Are: The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Parent Educator for the 2026-2027 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state of the art buildings in west-central Ohio. Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunity, including a 1:1 initiative and the YouMedia Center, which is a digital learning lab offering students activities such as 3-D printing, graphic design, and videography. We are Wildcats! A certified parent educator implements the PAT model within the home, emphasizing parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being in their work with families. Utilizing the PAT Foundational Curriculum in culturally sensitive ways, the parent educator partners, facilitates, and reflects with families. This is done by providing education in the form of personal visits, group meetings, screenings, and linkages to a network of resources for parents and children.

As a Parent Educator you are required to:
