Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

Provides information, support and home visitation services to parents to promote optimal developmental growth of their preschool age children.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provide parent education through regular personal visits implementing the Born To Learn Curriculum Prenatal to 5 years.
  • Assess family needs and provide developmentally appropriate information, guidance, and support to parents.
  • Prepare lesson plans and assist with child developmental screenings.
  • Review and analyze data for program evaluation. Responsible for completing and maintaining all documentation, screening summaries and essential records as required by the program in a timely and comprehensive manner.
  • Represent the District's Parents As Teachers program at various community events supporting families and children.
  • Coordinate services with other community programs offering services to parents and their young children.
  • Successfully complete the Born To Learn Institute offered by the SC Department of Education and acquire certification as a parent educator.
  • Maintain certification as a parent educator, by annually completing the required professional development hours.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Coordinator of Early Childhood, Chief Instructional Services Officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.

  • College degree in early childhood education or a related field of study preferred.
  • Demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge about what promotes optimal parent-child interaction and infant/toddler development.
  • Become qualified to administer developmental screenings.
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of three years supervised experience working with young children and their parents.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications.
