Job summary

The City of Clarksville is seeking an entry-level Transportation Driver to operate a small passenger vehicle and serve riders on assigned routes. You will perform routine inspections, assist with ticketing and fare collection, and maintain essential records in a civic transportation setting.

Education requires a high school diploma or GED, and applicants must hold a valid Tennessee Driver’s License with an F endorsement and obtain MEC. Availability to work nights and weekends is required.

Qualifications

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

This is the first of seven levels in the Transportation series. Incumbents transport customers in a small passenger vehicle. Responsibilities may include driving a small vehicle on an assigned route; inspecting assigned vehicle for cleanliness and safety; performing routine, minor vehicle maintenance; selling tickets and collecting fares; and maintaining records of activities.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

• Drives a small passenger vehicle to transport riders to applicable locations, including special events.

• Responds to inquiries or requests for information from citizens and/or other interested parties regarding transportation, route, and/or scheduling policies, procedures, and/or other related information.

• Relays traffic hazards to dispatchers.

• Prepares and maintains a variety of operational records and reports.

• Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.

• No experience required.

License and Certifications

• Possession of a valid Driver’s License with “F” Endorsement, issued by the State of Tennessee.

Physical Requirements

• Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.

• Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.

• Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

• Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

• Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

• Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
