Greater Summit County Early Learning Center (S.C.O.P.E. Academy) is seeking a paraprofessional/teacher's aide to help teachers to create and deliver engaging lessons that meet the needs of all learners.

S.C.O.P.E. is a K-4 community (charter) school that emphasizes S.T.E.A.M. principles through Project-Based and inquiry learning. We strive to shift the focus from what teachers are teaching to what learners are learning. We are sponsored by the Ohio Department of Education Office of School Sponsorship and our employer is North Central Ohio Educational Service Center.

Primary Duties
  • Assists teachers with daily classroom activities.Performs administrative tasks such as researching, making copies, and disseminating documents to students during class
  • Checks with the teacher for instructions.Works with small groups and/or individual students.Seeks advice when expectations are unclear
  • Helps students with remedial and/or enrichment activities.Reinforces instruction materials introduced by the teacher. Maintains a positive learning environment
  • Offers help when students ask or their behavior suggests they need assistance.Avoids being intrusive.Solves student concerns discreetly and reports concerns immediately
  • Supports an inclusive educational environment.Helps students with disabilities participate in appropriate peer group activities as directed
  • Assists with student mobility needs.Helps students use assisted and/or augmentative devices.
  • Positions students to take full advantage of each learning environment (e.g., line-of sight, proximity to equipment, height of work surfaces, etc.)
  • Follows prescribed medical plans and/or assists students with personal hygiene care (e.g., toileting, catheterization, help feed students etc.) as trained by a licensed health care professional
  • Actively participates in programmed recreational activities as directed
  • Supervises rest periods when applicable
  • Renders first aid and administers student medication when a nurse is not available
  • Monitors ill students until a parent/guardian arrives
  • Takes precautions to ensure staff/student safety.Does not leave students unsupervised
  • Maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code
  • Promotes the proper use and care of school property
  • May participate in parent conferences, open houses and other required activities
  • May participate in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed
  • Accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct
  • Wears appropriate work attire and maintains a neat appearance
  • Demonstrates professionalism and contributes to a positive work environment
  • Performs prescribed activities efficiently with limited supervision
  • Effectively uses verbal, nonverbal, writing and listening skills
  • Completes paperwork accurately.Verifies and correctly enters data
  • Assists with the administration of standardized tests in accordance with applicable ESC and/or Ohio policies & procedures
  • Partners with teacher to assess and administer behavior management plans that align with the school-wide positive behavior interventions & supports (PBIS) program.Partners with students to promote positive behavior outcomes
  • Participates on school and ESC sponsored teams/committees
  • Attends and participates in required school/campus and ESC sponsored meetings & events
  • Collects student data as indicated by the classroom teacher, principal, school psychologist, or supervisor as directed
  • Cooperates and works well with others
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance
  • Upholds governing board policies and follows administrative procedures
  • Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect to civil authorities as required by law
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma
  • Valid Ohio Aide Permit with ESEA Qualified Endorsement
  • Ability to physically manage students with disabilities
  • Self-directed and able to learn required skills for the position
  • The employee shall remain free of alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the ESC
  • May require successful completion of communicable disease, child abuse, CPR, first aid, CPI and/or behavioral management training or other training as needed
  • Ability to efficiently multi-task on a daily basis
  • Proficiency with use of technology hardware and basic software (i.e., Microsoft office), email, and office equipment (i.e., copier, fax, scanner, telephone, etc.). Proficiency with web-based applications (i.e., Google Docs, DEWs website, social media, etc.), and NCOESC databases
  • Ability to preserve confidentiality of student information and records
