Job summary

Clayton County Public Schools seeks a Paraprofessional - Special Education-MOID at River's Edge Elementary in Fayetteville, GA. You will support exceptional education students, assist in multiple settings, and help implement lesson plans under supervision.

Immediate start with a structured salary scale and grade 16/190-day schedule. Position requires one of several qualifying pathways (associate degree or equivalent coursework or GACE plus diploma).

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
• Two years of college coursework (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of C or better.
• Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Training and/or experience in special needs of disabled populations such as first aid, two-person lift for students, or behavior management preferred.
• Light duty – mostly desk work with occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides academic support to exceptional education students (including those with moderate intellectual disabilities) at the elementary level. Under general supervision serves as a support to the assigned classroom teacher or instructional area in providing educational opportunities for each student within various disciplines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides support to selected students in resource, self-contained, and regular classroom settings. Conducts small group or individual classroom activities with students based on lesson plans developed by the teacher. Assists with preparation of materials for instruction (including the copying/duplicating of materials, construction of bulletin boards, grading work, etc.). Performs special duties as required for meeting the unique needs of specific student populations; e.g., lifting physically disabled students, toileting/personal hygiene assistance, using physical restraints or other specialized behavior management techniques.
Assists with routine record keeping, housekeeping; assists with school-wide supervision such as loading/unloading buses.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• 1. Hold an associate’s degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
• OR 2. Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours or [90] quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of “C” or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution.
• OR 3. Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Training and/or experience in special needs of disabled populations such as first aid, ability to perform a two person lift for students as needed, or behavior management preferred.

Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittent sitting, standing, or stooping.Moderate lifting or carrying; fifty (50) lbs. or less.

NOTE: This is a grade 16, 190-day position that starts at a step 6 and pays for experience up to a step 8. Position Type: FULL TIME
Salary: $25,142.70 to $26,563.90 Paid based on salary scale
