II. SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE
Assists the teacher in implementing a program which ensures a smooth transitionbetween home and school and introduces readiness concepts to the pre-school aged childby performing duties assigned by the teacher.
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of twenty (20) years old
- Highly Qualified
- 1. Pass the ETS Para-Pro Assessment – Score 450; or
- 2. Completed two (2) years (48 semester credit hours) from state-approved or regionally accredited institution of higher education; *Within the forty-eight semester hours, theparaprofessional must complete a total of 15 hours of general education requirements thatinclude English Composition (3), English/Reading (6), and Mathematics (6). For theremaining 33 hours of coursework, acceptance of credit for a course shown on a transcriptfrom an approved higher education institution is left to school district discretion inaddressing the needs of the specific job. Discipline-specific electives may include as manyas 12 hours of developmental (remedial)course; or
- 3. Earned an Associate’s Degree from a state-approved or regionally accredited institution of higher education; or
- 4. Hold a Child Development Associate Certification (CDA)
- Must be computer-literate.
- Must pass physical exam prior to employment.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs duties under the direct supervision of the assigned teacher(s). Duties mayinclude, but shall not be limited to, implementing activities (small group and/orindividual), toileting/hygiene procedures, record keeping, and preparation ofinstructional materials and activities.
- Assists the students with activities as directed by the teacher(s).
- Assists and supports the students’ instructional process as planned by the teacher(s),including, gathering and recording of observational data
- Assists in classroom routines (i.e., taking daily attendance, the collection and recordingof monies received from students in the class.)
- Supports the teacher in the implementation of the established classroom managementplan and actively supervises students.
- Adheres to policy and procedures set forth by each individual school for schedules,break time, lunchtime, and duty
- Attends meetings as requested by teacher or administrative personnel.
- Establishes and maintains appropriate respectful, harmonious relationship withadministration, school faculty, other employees, students, and community
- Maintains confidentiality regarding all personal information and educational recordsconcerning children, youth, and their families. Paraprofessionals must refrain from accessing,discussing, or disclosing anything outside the scope of employment unless authorized byimmediate supervisor.
- Observes professional ethics as prescribed by the employee’s profession and in accordancewith state law and Board policy.
- Participates in professional growth activities such as Professional Development Day(s),seminars, conferences, workshops for the improvement of knowledge and skills relating to best practices.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or by Superintendent.
