JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Paraprofessional

QUALIFICATION S:

  • Associate's degree, successful completion of two years of postsecondary education, or passing score on a state-approved paraprofessional assessment, if required by assignment or federal regulations.
  • Experience working with children in an educational or related setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with federal and state laws.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work collaboratively as a member of an educational team.
  • CPR, First Aid, Crisis Prevention/Intervention, or other specialized training may be required depending on assignment.

REPORTS TO : Building Principal and /or designee

JOB GOAL: The Paraprofessional provides instructional, behavioral, and classroom support under the direction and supervision of a certified teacher and/or administrator. The Paraprofessional assists in creating a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment by supporting students' academic achievement, social-emotional development, behavioral success, and independence. Assignments may include general education classrooms, special education programs, intervention services, or one-on-one student support.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNTIONS :

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Instruc tional Support
  • Assist certified teachers in implementing instructional activities and lesson plans.
  • Provide individual, small-group, and classroom instructional support as directed.
  • Reinforce academic concepts and classroom instruction using teacher-developed materials.
  • Assist students in developing organizational, study, and independent learning skills.
  • Support students during assessments, classroom projects, and instructional activities.
  • Prepare instructional materials and classroom resources.
  • Assist with technology integration and educational software utilized within the classroom.
Student Support
  • Foster positive relationships that promote student engagement, confidence, and success.
  • Provide academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support consistent with student needs.
  • Encourage independence while providing appropriate levels of assistance.
  • Assist students with organization, transitions, and daily classroom routines.
  • Support students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, field trips, assemblies, and other school activities as assigned.
  • Assist with de-escalation strategies and behavior intervention plans under the direction of professional staff.
  • Provide personal care assistance, including toileting, feeding, lifting, positioning, mobility assistance, and hygiene support when required by assignment.
Classroom Support
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and positive learning environment.
  • Monitor students during instructional and non-instructional periods.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, buses, and other school settings as assigned.
  • Assist in maintaining classroom organization, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Perform clerical duties including filing, copying, data entry, recordkeeping, attendance, and preparation of classroom materials.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and educational records.
Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, special education staff, administrators, related service providers, and other district personnel.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training opportunities as assigned.
  • Implement accommodations and modifications identified in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Section 504 Plans, behavior support plans, or other educational plans under the direction of licensed staff.
  • Communicate professionally with staff and families as directed.
Professional Responsibilitie s
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, punctuality, and regular attendance.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student, family, and personnel information.
  • Comply with district policies, procedures, state regulations, and applicable federal laws.
  • Participate in required district training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or designee.

  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the school day.

  • Assist students with mobility, transfers, positioning, and personal care when required by assignment.
  • Physically intervene using approved district crisis intervention techniques when required and appropriately trained.
  • Operate classroom technology, computers, tablets, and other instructional equipment.
  • Read written materials and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Respond quickly to student emergencies and changing classroom situations.
  • Maintain sufficient physical stamina to actively supervise students throughout the workday.
  • Work is performed primarily in classrooms, instructional spaces, cafeterias, gymnasiums, playgrounds, buses, and other school facilities.
  • Regular exposure to moderate noise levels typical of educational settings.
  • Frequent interaction with students exhibiting a wide range of academic, behavioral, emotional, and physical needs.
  • May work outdoors in varying weather conditions during recess, arrival, dismissal, field trips, and school activities.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with the Conway Educational Support Personnel (CESP) collective bargaining agreement

WORK YEAR: 183 day / school year position

EVALUATION : Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Conway Educational Support Personnel (CESP) Negotiated Agreement. The principal and/or administrative designee will be the evaluator.
