Job summary

Rochester, NH – ESS is hiring a Paraprofessional for High Intensive Needs in the SAU 54 district. The role supports students with special needs, under the supervision of teachers, to promote academic and personal growth.

Responsibilities include instructional reinforcement, supervision, and assisting with daily tasks across classrooms and activities. Qualifications include a HS diploma or GED, NH Paraeducator II certification or higher, and experience with autism or related conditions.

• Support students with special needs by following provisions specified in their IEPs/504 Plans.
• Assist with the physical and minimal health needs of the children, which may include lifting, feeding, toileting/diapering, and personal hygiene.

An ESS paraprofessional for HIGH Intensive class assists the classroom teacher to provide extra support to students with special needs, promoting maximum academic and personal growth. The paraprofessional job responsibilities range from supplementing regular classroom curriculum to helping individual students.

Paraprofessionals are also known as school aides, teacher assistants, instructional aides, one-to-one aides, and personal care assistants.

• Strong communication skills to work effectively with students, teachers, and other school staff.
• Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible in challenging situations.
• Passion for working with children and supporting their academic and behavioral development.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a collaborative school setting.
• Ability to assist with physical activities such as sitting on the floor, standing for extended periods, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to respond to student behaviors in a safe and effective manner.
• High School Diploma or GED, Associate's Degree or an equivalent two years of college, Bachelor degree or Paraeducator II certification from the NH Dept of Education.
