Job summary

NOLA Public Schools is seeking a Paraprofessional to support teachers and students in the classroom. The role involves assisting with lesson plans, small-group instruction, and behavior management to foster an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities include distributing instructional materials, assisting with tests and data recording, preparing learning aids, and participating in professional development to improve skills. On-site work in a school setting is expected.

Qualifications

• Hold an associate degree or pass the ETS ParaPro Assessment to be considered a highly qualified paraprofessional
• Complete a minimum of 48 semester credit hours (equivalent to two years of full-time study)

• Work with small groups or individual students to reinforce learning concepts introduced by the teacher
• Provide additional support to students with diverse learning needs
• Monitor and manage student behavior in classrooms, hallways, and other school settings
• Assist with student transitions between activities and locations
• Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students
• Assist teacher in administering, scoring, and recording achievement and diagnostic tests
• Implements program under direction of teachers; operates audio-visual equipment; uses variety of learning materials
• Evaluates progress cooperatively with teacher
• Assists teacher with required clerical/record-keeping duties
• Assists in the setup and arranging of the classroom room, materials, and bulletin boards
• Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes
• Assists in preparation of instructional materials
• Participates in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge
• Performs other duties as required

Position Summary

Educational Background (you must meet at least one of the following requirements)

• Hold an associate degree from an accredited institution or pass the ETS ParaPro Assessment to be considered a highly qualified paraprofessional


• Complete a minimum of 48 semester credit hours (equivalent to two years of full-time study)

Other Knowledge, Skills Or Abilities Required

• Previous experience as a Paraprofessional preferred;


• Educational experience preferred;


• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;


• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and staff.

Performance Evaluation

The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS/LEADS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS/LEADS to ensure renewal of certification.
