Job summary

Illinois Education Job Bank is seeking dedicated Paraprofessionals to assist teachers in providing instructional, behavioral, and social-emotional support to students with diverse learning needs.

You will work with general and special education staff across multiple grade levels, supporting students with disabilities, implementing accommodations, and promoting a positive, inclusive classroom environment throughout the school day. This role emphasizes collaboration, safety, and confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Paraprofessional License/Certification registered with the Regional Office of Education in Kankakee County.
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills for successful performance.
  • Experience working with children, particularly students with disabilities, preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of special education practices, accommodations, and supports.
  • Ability to follow and implement teacher-directed instructional strategies and interventions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to support students with diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
  • Ability to support students with physical, mental, learning, and medical needs.
  • Ability to build supportive and compassionate relationships with students, especially those with special needs.
  • Ability to report information orally and in writing as required.
  • Prior experience working with special needs children is preferred.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of disabilities, including physical and emotional disabilities.
  • Ability to assist with activities of daily living (e.g., mobility, toileting/diapering, use of communication devices).
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing student and district needs.
  • Ability to travel between schools or district offices as needed.

  • Participate in team meetings and professional development as appropriate.
  • Ensure accurate documentation as directed and compliance with district policies and procedures.
  • Accompany students on field trips to assist with supervision.
  • Prepare, copy, and distribute instructional materials.
  • Assist students with disabilities in daily living activities to maximize participation in school.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures, especially when working with students with special needs.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality of student, family, and staff information.
  • Work collaboratively with co-workers and school staff.
  • Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral growth.
  • Uphold school policies, procedures, and educational standards.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by Administration
