Job summary

The Educational Service Center of the Western Reserve seeks an Educational Aide to support teachers in classrooms serving students with disabilities. You will assist with instructional materials, review IEPs, and help maintain records while ensuring safety and confidentiality.

The role requires a High school diploma or GED, 1–3 months related experience, and an Ohio Educational Aide Permit. This non-exempt position reports to the Principal/Program Supervisor and offers a structured school

Qualifications

  • Education, Experience & Certification: High school diploma or GED; one to three months related experience and/or training.
  • Must obtain and maintain an Ohio Department of Education Educational Aide Permit.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the instruction of students with disabilities as directed by the teacher.
  • Review and become familiar with student's IEP.
  • Prepare and organize instructional materials and lessons.
  • Instruct students using appropriate methods and materials.
  • Correct student assignments, tests, and homework.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all work responsibilities.
  • Set a professional image through courteous manners, proper work attire, a positive attitude, and cooperative demeanor.

Location: Broadmoor School, Mentor, PreK - 12 Developmentally Disabled, ages 3 22 years

Reports To:Principal/Program Supervisor

FLSA Status:non-exempt

Summary:Performs any combination of the following instructional tasks in the classroom to assist teaching staff by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

As directed by the teacher, assist in the instruction of students with disabilities by:

  • Reviewing and becoming familiar with student's IEP.
  • Preparing and/or organizing instructional materials and lessons.
  • Instructing child using appropriate methods and materials.
  • Correcting student assignments, tests, and homework.
  • Maintaining appropriate records.
  • Assist in supervising student with disability in any instructional setting (regular classroom, special education classroom, lunchroom, playground, recreational/physical education activities, field tripsand hallways) during the school day.
  • Assist in supervising student with disability in Behavioral management of child using the appropriate methods and techniques.
  • Assist in supervising student with disability during the arrival and departure of students.
  • With proper training, assist student with personal health needs and non-medical procedures.
  • Position and/or perform one-person or two-person lift of a child when needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all work responsibilities.
  • Set a professional image through the use of interpersonal skills to include: courteous manners; proper work attire; a positive attitude; and, a cooperative demeanor.
  • Respond and interact with children and adults in a positive, thoughtful, and appropriate manner.

Education, Experience & Certification:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training. Must obtain and maintain an Ohio Department of Education Educational Aide Permit.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands: The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision and Peripheral vision. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Criminal Records Check:Must comply with Ohio Revised Code 3319.39 Criminal Records Check.

Drug Testing:Must pass a drug screen at time of hire and comply with the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988.
