Job summary

Jenks Public Schools is seeking a Paraprofessional to assist in implementing individualized education plans under the supervision of the special education team. You will work with individuals or small groups, reinforce learning, and support behavior plans while respecting confidentiality.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, and completion of state requirements (CPR/First Aid, training).

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required as baseline credential.
  • Acceptable routes include associate's degree or higher, or NC certificate via ACT/WorkKeys.
  • Must complete CPR/First Aid training and maintain it.
  • Meets district health and citizenship requirements.
  • Other board-approved qualifications may be acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision of the special education teacher, work with individuals or small groups to reinforce learning.
  • Assist in supporting behavior intervention plans and classroom routines.
  • Modify materials and help prepare learning spaces for teaching.
  • Support transitions (lunch, bathroom, nurse clinic) and assist with safety.
  • Collaborate with PT/OT/SLP and other specialists to meet student needs.
  • Maintain student records with confidentiality and progress notes.

Position: Paraprofessional

Reports to: Principal and Special Education Teacher

Supervises: None

Qualifications
  1. High School Diploma or GED required.
  2. Satisfy Every Student Succeeds Act requirements by :
  • Completed at least 2 years of study (48 hrs.) at an institution of higher ed, or
  • Hold an associate's degree or higher, or
  • Obtained a National Career Readiness Certificate through successful completion of the ACT, WorkKeys Assessment, or passed the Paraprofessional Assessment Test - Passing Score is 455, or
  • Passed the Oklahoma General Education (OGET) Test.
  • Complete and maintain training and skills in Cardiovascular Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid.
  • Satisfy all district requirements with regard to physical health and citizenship.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
Position Goal

Assist in the implementation of the program designed to meet the specific goals and objectives for each student, through the provision of individual attention, additional and/or enrichment instruction.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  1. Under the supervision of the special education teacher, works with individuals and/or small groups of students to reinforce expectations and learning introduced by the teacher.
  2. Assists the teacher and supports behavior intervention plans, if applicable.
  3. Modifies materials and assists in preparing and maintaining classrooms for teaching and learning.
  4. Adheres to schedule, assisting students with transitions as appropriate, i.e. lunch, bathroom, specials and nurse clinic.
  5. Assists in lifting students as instructed for safety from chair to and from changing table and/or toilet.
  6. Assists students with toileting needs as appropriate.
  7. Collaborates with service providers PT, OT, SLP, vision and/or orientation specialists to assist with meeting the physical and training needs of students.
  8. Assists in tasks or student support requested by teacher or principal.
  9. Assists in maintaining student records, i.e., confidentiality, charting progress with academics or behavior.
  10. Complete the Oklahoma Special Education Paraprofessional Training or other State approved Local Education Agency (LEA) training.
  11. Complete training in Universal Precautions/Bloodborne Pathogens Training yearly.
  12. Participates in professional development and other training programs, as required.
  13. Demonstrates care and concern for students through cooperation and willingness to learn.
  14. Performs all other duties as assigned.
