Job summary

Lehigh Valley Health Network is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic to provide pre-hospital and intra-hospital advanced life support. You will respond to emergencies, administer medications, and coordinate patient care with receiving facilities.

Applicants must have EMS experience, PA licensure, ACLS/PALS, and strong documentation skills. Evening shift and on-site work at multiple Lehigh Valley locations are available.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED and 2+ years as EMT-B and/or AEMT.
  • ACLS and PALS certification required or obtained upon hire.
  • EMT-Paramedic certification (EMT-P) or equivalent PA/National Registry.
  • Driver's license (PA) required; EMS vehicle operator credentials.
  • EMSVO and PHTLS within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the ambulance service at public events and provide stand-by services.
  • Document assessments and treatments in patient care charting software.
  • Care for patients in psychiatric, medical, and traumatic crises with life-saving interventions.
  • Operate paramedic equipment during ALS procedures.
  • Prioritize medical procedures and assist in patient transfer to hospital.

Summary

Functions as an emergency response medical professional that administers immediate medical care to victims of accidents, violence, and sudden illnesses such as cardiac arrests or strokes. Provides pre-hospital and intra-hospital advanced life support care from initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility.

Job Duties
  • Represents the ambulance service while on duty at public service functions, expositions, and other public events and provides ambulance stand by services when necessary.
  • Documents full assessment and treatments in patient care charting software.
  • Cares for patients in psychiatric, medical, and traumatic crisis by providing medical, traumatic, and therapeutic services.
  • Serves as a member of a two-member ambulance crew responding to emergency and non-emergency calls.
  • Operates equipment such as bag valve mask resuscitators, external defibrillators, and electrocardiograms for advanced life support applications.
  • Assesses the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed such as stabilization, immobilization, lifting, and moving of victims from scene of any accident or catastrophe.
  • Responds to instructions from a dispatcher and drives and operates specially equipped emergency vehicles to specified locations at a safe and controlled speed.
  • Administers drugs via injection, intravenous procedures, or oral administration under the direction of a physician.
  • Communicates with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding treatment.
  • Cleans and decontaminates ambulance after transporting or treating any patient with infectious disease and reports infectious disease to relevant authorities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED 2 years Pre Hospital EMT-B and/or AEMT experience.
  • Ability to assess needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families.
  • Ability to document and communicate pertinent information using computer and/or paper documentation tools.
  • Demonstrates age-specific competencies in the care of neonates, infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers, school aged, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.
  • Must be able to apply advance knowledge and training, developing and executing a plan of care, and rapidly intervene in life-saving procedures.
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - American Heart Association Upon Hire.
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association Upon Hire.
  • DL - Driver\'s License_PA - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire.
  • EMT-P - Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire or EMT - Paramedic - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Upon Hire.
  • EMSVO - Emergency Medical Service Vehicle Operator - Emergency Health Services Federation Within 1 Year.
  • PHTLS - Prehospital Trauma Life Support - National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians Within 1 Year.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree and NIMS 100,200,700.
  • 2 years experience in advanced life support service.
  • 1 year pre-hospital paramedic experience.
  • EMT - Paramedic - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Upon Hire or PHRN - Pre-Hospital RN - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire.
