Waverly Health Center in Iowa seeks a Paramedic to provide emergency and hospital-based patient care in pre-hospital and acute settings. You will follow Iowa EMS Scope of Practice guidelines, administer life support, and coordinate care with physicians.
Requirements include graduation from an accredited Paramedic program, Iowa Paramedic certification (or RN Exempt Paramedic), English fluency, and strong communication.
Provides care to sick and injured patients in pre-hospital settings. May provide care to patients having more complex medical or trauma problems in extenuating circumstances. Possesses broad-based clinical skills including communication, mentoring, advocacy, critical thinking, accountability for self, peers and staff and assisting in maintaining a healthy work environment.
Education, Experience, and Training Must be a graduate of an accredited Paramedic program and possess valid Iowa Paramedic certification; OR meet the requirements to be an RN Exempt Paramedic as specified by the State of Iowa Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services. Must maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Driving Record. Previous experience as a Paramedic preferred. Must have thorough knowledge of emergency care equipment, vehicle operation and maintenance, and advanced Paramedic procedures. Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including the online training modules, the employee timesheet and the performance appraisal system. Job specific systems are also required. Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.
Physical Requirements Sitting – Approximately 25% of shift. Standing– Approximately 50% of shift. Walking – Approximately 50% of shift. Lifting – Approximately 50 pounds. Must use, and require others to use, when in hospital and/or pre-hospital settings, proper body mechanics and ergonomics and, as applicable, lifting/moving devices. Twisting – Infrequent. Bending – Moderate. Squat/Kneel – Approximately 25% of shift.
